It is rather surprising to know that most people who have chocolate-allergies are not allergic cocoa or milk, rather, the allergies come from insect parts found in the chocolates!
On average, 100gm chocolate contains 8 insect parts, and up to 60 insect parts for 100gm chocolate, is safe for consumption according to FDA!
However, this does not mean that chocolates contain cockroaches, what we are actually talking about, is the contamination of cocoa seeds by insects. Almost every foodgrain is contaminated by some of the other insects, and these can’t be discarded due to economic reasons.
In the same light, FSSAI permits the use of 2% of insect-infected cocoa grains to be used in the making of chocolate, similarly, other food authorities of various countries have similar guidelines.
So the next time, a WhatsApp graduate, tells you about such ‘facts’ show them this blog and open their eyes! Chocolates do not contain Cockroaches!
